LYG's November Update is Complete - We're Still Here!
First off , my thanks to everyone that has offered support over this last month.
Secondly, as per the heading to the post, we're still here (there was always the chance that, despite upgrading the plan with BlueHost (spits), there may have been issues).
Thirdly, this month's update includes an important statement about the future of LYG, so I thought it worth posting here in full:
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE FUTURE OF LYG
You hopefully read the update to last month's homepage stating that BlueHost, our hosting service, have done the dirty on us (and may other customers), by giving just 3 weeks notice of their intention to limit our storage.
This has had Natasha and I rushing around trying to identify a way forward. We think we have the solution. We're going to stay with BlueHost for one more year and have upgraded to a plan that allows us to at least maintain our current storage. We'll then use that year to hopefully move LYG onto another platform. This will involve a complete re-write of LYG (for various technical reasons) and it is unlikely that we will have all the current functionality on the new platform. However, hopefully we'll be able to continue to offer the download facility as well as uploading new files.
FOR THE NEXT 12-MONTHS (at least), we will only be accepting updates to existing files; we will not be uploading new content (our storage limits don't allow it). With Vassal and ZT we will continue to add cross-links to those platform's sites - but we won't be hosting new files that are available on those sites.
We know this isn't ideal, but it is better than LYG disappearing on November 1st - which seemed a very real possibility a couple of weeks ago.
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that offered support over the last few weeks be that advice, technical guidance, storage or financial donations. It has been humbling to see how many folk do value the site.
October wasn't the greatest month for other reasons too - including the fact that, having just re-opened the LYG shop following our sojourn in France, I then had to place the taking of new counter orders on hold - as I was being inundated (I know, a nice problem to have). Anyhow, I'm pleased to say that the backlog of orders have been cleared and the influx of new orders now appears to be at a manageable level. So,
it is business as usual - get those orders in.
